Mobility Page |
|
For those who may have injured themselves or need assistance with mobility there are a number of little known options available to you. Here is what we feel is really good advice:
| Wheel chairs and Scooters |
First, you can rent wheelchairs and mobile chairs from most casino hotels. The concierge can arrange for one to be delivered if they do not have one onsite. Most charge a reasonable fee for a day or three days. If you are staying for a weekend, the 3 day rate can be cheaper than one day at a time. They sometimes have a placard that displays the different types of seats available.
| Walking Forever | In the event you have never been to Vegas before, you may not be aware of the amount of walking you are about to do. Bring good walking shoes. If you are going to bring high heels, plan to change into them when you reach your destination. It doesn't take long to develop blisters. Walgreens and a few other shops have moleskin readily available, but an ounce of prevention will make things much easier on you.
| Handy Gift Shops | Nearly every hotel has a small gift shop where you can buy convenience items such as toothpaste, orange juice, chewing gum, etc. Most are conveniently easy to find, some are a bit off the beaten track, just ask an employee and they will direct you.
| Slower Movement Than Others | Sometimes us older folks move a bit slower than the crowd. But this can happen to younger people as well and especially when pushing a wheel chair around. This can cause some people to become impatient. When there are so many people, a bit of common courtesy all around works. Stay to the right, allow people to pass you on the left. This trick works in just about any country. If you are pushing a wheelchair, be aware of your position so others may pass without injury.
| People Staring and Not Paying Attention | We have a saying here it is called "looky loos". These are the people that make sudden stops right in front of the walking crowd and sometimes cause bumping and other accidents. Spilled coffee and sodas are never fun. It happens all the time, so keep your eyes on those people that are in their own little world. Again, stay to the right and anticipate it happening and you will be better prepared to deal with it. One small episode could ruin someone's day and no one should have that happen. People are people so get over it and be prepared for it. Las Vegas is fascinating. I have personally run into a pole in front of the Bellagio Fountains so we all do it.
